Everyone knows how to bake cookies from dough. But what happens when you put metal in the oven?

Metals are processed in six furnaces at ifw Jena. Diffusion bonding is a special joining method. Slices of a metallic component are placed on top of each other in layers and then heated under high pressure in the furnace. The layers join together seamlessly to form a single component. In this way, objects with cavities and complex internal structures can be produced that would not be possible using conventional methods such as milling. At ifw Jena, you can take your children on a tour of the furnaces required for diffusion bonding and other furnace-based processes.
