Become an election worker (m/f/d)

1,000 election workers wanted

On 26.09.2021 the election to the German Bundestag and in all likelihood the election to the Thuringian state parliament will take place.

Our democracy lives not only from the highest possible voter turnout, but also through the commitment of approximately 1,000 volunteers on each election Sunday. Recruiting election helpers is always a great challenge.

We would therefore like to ask you to make yourselves available for voluntary work as election helpers. Those who would like to take on such an honorary electoral office should themselves be eligible to vote.

Declaration of readiness

As of now, you have the opportunity to declare your willingness to work as an election worker. A "Declaration of Readiness to Serve on the Election Board" (see Downloads) has been prepared for your registration, in which you can express your ideas for participation. We will take these into account to a large extent when planning the deployment. Please fill out the form "Declaration of readiness to serve on the election committee" (PDF file) and send it to the address indicated on it.

Election workers have been placed in priority group 3 for corona virus vaccinations by the federal government. If you declare your willingness to work as an election worker, you will receive a confirmation from us, with which you can take care of a vaccination at the vaccination centres or at your family doctor on your own responsibility. Vaccinations are possible as soon as people in priority group 3 are vaccinated.

Procedure on election day

At general polling stations located throughout the city, activity begins at 07:15 on Election Sunday. Polling places open at 08:00 and close at 18:00. Each election committee usually consists of 6-10 persons. During the election period, the election workers do not all have to be present continuously. As a rule, the election officers divide their teams into a morning and an afternoon group in advance. Starting at 6:00 p.m., all members of the election committee will come together to determine the results. Please expect the results to be finalised at around 23:00.

The counting of the postal vote will take place centrally in the building of the Community School Wenigenjena, Jenzigweg29, 07749 Jena. Expect a time commitment from 15:00 o'clock to approx. 23:00 o'clock.

All election workers will receive a refreshment allowance.

The amount of the refreshment money can be seen in the following table.

Appointment, briefing, training

About 4 weeks before election day, i.e. at the end of August, all election workers receive a letter of appointment. All election workers will be instructed in their work on site on election Sunday. In the two weeks before the election, election chairpersons, secretaries and their deputies must attend a training session. Assistant secretaries are also welcome. The possible dates will be communicated with the appointment letter.

Training materials can be downloaded under Downloads from approx. 3 weeks before the election day.
