Purchase and registration of black garbage cans

The bins must be equipped by the KSJ with an identification chip and an identification number (white sticker), which ensures automatic property-related data collection and correct fee collection for residual waste garbage cans. The property owner/house manager must be authorized to purchase the container or provide a corresponding power of attorney for delivery.

We rent out 1,100 l and 660 l waste garbage cans (green), 5 m³ skips and transfer bins as well as compactors to commercial enterprises. Please contact our sales department: vertrieb-ksj@jena.de. The number and size of the residual waste containers depends on the demand on the property.

Commercial waste

Waste for disposal (commercial waste similar to household waste) must be delivered to the municipal waste disposal system and will be disposed of by us.
A quantity-based fee is charged for the emptying of residual waste containers.

Front-emptying containers are used in the commercial sector for the disposal of paper, film and commercial waste.
Sizes of 2.5 and 5 m³ are possible here. The containers are emptied regularly, max. weekly.

Containers

• 120 liter waste garbage can
  made of plastic (brown) available at the KSJ Service Center, Löbstedter Str. 56, for a purchase price of EUR 35. You can buy the organic waste containers from us or from other suppliers (KSJ ID chip must be added).
  
• 1.100 liter roll container
  made of plastic (green with brown lid) We rent the containers to commercial establishments. Please contact our sales department: vertrieb-ksj@jena.de.

Waste disposal

The waste containers are emptied according to fixed schedules. You can view the dates under: Disposal dates.

From December to February of each year, we switch to a 14-day disposal cycle. Disposal takes place in the even calendar weeks. Weekly disposal will resume at the beginning of week 10.

Provision

The unsealed waste containers must be placed at the edge of public traffic areas (outside of roadways) by 6:00 a.m. on the day of emptying.

Alternatively, Biowaste containers can be deposited at the recycling centers. However, this is subject to a charge for approved home composting and for commercial facilities.

In addition to the emptying costs, a rental fee of EUR 5 per month plus VAT is charged for commercially used 1,100 l organic waste containers.

Purchase and registration of blue garbage cans

The 120 and 240-liter garbage cans are provided free of charge and can be collected from Kommunalservice Jena at Löbstedter Straße 56. The blue garbage cans are equipped with a transponder chip and an identification number (white sticker) from the KSJ and are therefore registered for each property.

For commercial enterprises, 1,100 liter roll containers (blue) or front-emptying containers (2.5 and 5 m³) are available. You can obtain these from our sales department: vertrieb-ksj@jena.de.

Alternative: Disposal at the recycling centers

Is your blue garbage can already full and the collection date not yet in sight? Then take excess cardboard etc. directly to one of our recycling centers. We have compacting containers on the sites where you can dispose of your cardboard etc. free of charge.

You can also order an additional waste paper garbage can.

Disposal options

The KSJ offers small businesses the following disposal options free of charge:

• Drop off at the KSJ collection points
  Löbstedter Straße 56 and Emil-Wölk-Straße 13a recycling centers (here only for households)
• Collection of large household appliances
  (refrigerators and freezers, TVs, monitors, washing machines, tumble dryers, electric stoves and dishwashers)
  The intended disposal must be notified in advance to the KSJ service office (Tel. 03641 4989-260) or the KSJ (Tel. 03641 4989-500) in order to arrange a collection date. The appliances to be collected must be placed at the boundary of the property on the agreed day by 6:00 a.m. and marked with the name of the owner.
  You can also use this form to register: "Registration for collection of large household appliances"
• Deposit in depot containers for Small scrap metal / small electrical devices
  The gray containers for the disposal of Small scrap metal / small electrical devices are also located at the collection points for glass and old textiles.
  The container opening is approx. 90 x 50 cm. It is not permitted to deposit appliances next to the containers. This is a source of danger and an administrative offense.
• Mobile pollutant collection (pollutant mobile)
  Only small electronic waste can be handed in at the mobile hazardous waste collection point.

Costs

Electrical/electronic appliances from commercial establishments are disposed of free of charge, as is the case for households. There are only transportation costs for collection.

KSJ locking system for bin enclosures

It is possible to rent a KSJ locking cylinder and have it installed in your bin enclosure to enable our employees to access and remove the waste garbage cans independently of the building lock. Kommunalservice Jena ensures the functionality of the cylinder lock and takes care of installation, repair, maintenance and related services (breakdown service). The keys for the cylinder lock remain with Kommunalservice Jena.

For a monthly fee, you have the option of using a bin lock. You are responsible for any duplication and procurement of the required keys. The municipal service will ensure that the waste garbage can lock is in working order.

Rolling service for 1,100 liter waste garbage cans

Our wheelie bin service includes the collection and, after emptying, the return of the garbage cans from the site. However, a prerequisite for the provision of the service on our part is that our employees have free access to the waste garbage cans. (The acceptance of keys is not possible)

Legal basis

All general conditions to be observed for waste disposal are regulated in the waste statutes of the city of Jena. Kommunalservice Jena charges commercial enterprises for waste disposal. This means that the commercial enterprise receives an invoice showing VAT. If you receive a utility bill including disposal fees from the owner/manager, the waste fee statutes of the city of Jena apply.

In addition, the Commercial Waste Ordinance (GewerbeabfallVO) has been in force since August 1, 2017 and must be observed and implemented by all waste producers. Further detailed information can be found here.
