Appearance was just as important to people in Classical Antiquity as it is to us, so clothing, jewelry and hairstyles were similarly subject to the tastes of the time. There were supra-regional trends across ancient borders, but regional characteristics often also found their way into the design of clothing and hairstyles. For archaeologists, fibulae, jewelry, garment draping and pinned hairstyles, which only lasted for a short time, are all the more important criteria for stylistics, iconography and dating. The exhibition uses originals, copies and reconstructions to show the significance of fashion trends in historical epochs, also against the background of traditional social and gender roles in Greco-Roman antiquity.
