Residence permit - EU Blue Card

The residence permit as an EU Blue Card is limited in time. The period of validity is one to four years. If the employment relationship is to exist for less than four years, the EU Blue Card is issued for the duration of the employment contract plus three months. The format within the European Union is uniform and corresponds to Regulation (EC) 1030 / 2002.

The same rules apply to the extension of the residence permit as to its issue. The same documents are required as for the initial application.

The requirements include

• German university degree, recognised foreign university degree or foreign university degree comparable to a German university degree
• a job corresponding to the qualification with a minimum annual income for 2019 of €53,600 (€41,808 for certain shortage occupations)

To make an appointment, you must be registered with your main residence in Jena.

Register with the appointment code

You will receive an appointment code with your appointment. If you are not on time, the appointment will be cancelled. Half an hour before the appointment you can register at the multilingual registration terminal of the Foreigners' Registration Office with the appointment code. You do not need to pull a ticket!

Appointment confirmation is considered a fictitious certificate

If you make your appointment via our online appointment system, you will receive a fictitious certificate which you can print out together with the binding appointment confirmation. This certificate is valid in Germany and bridges the time until the appointment.
