Yeasts are part of the natural microbiome and live on our mucous membranes. Normally they live together peacefully, but under certain conditions they can cause serious infections. We'll show you how we humans protect ourselves against them!
We will introduce you to the yeast Candida albicans and how it interacts with us humans in its harmless state and how it can then lead to serious, sometimes fatal diseases. You can shed Candida fungi with immune cells, we will provide you with "magic mushrooms" and you will see how diverse and colorful our microbiome and the microorganisms in our environment are.
We will also show you parts of the lab and beautiful microscopy images and videos about the interaction of fungi with human cells. Last but not least, you can compete in pipetting and win a small surprise in a little game. We are happy to welcome both young and old players!
