Registration of deregistered vehicle with previous owner

Deregistration period longer than 7 years

The vehicle data is only kept in the Central Vehicle Register for 7 years after the vehicle has been taken out of service. If a vehicle is to be re-registered after this period and the associated data can no longer be retrieved from the KBA and no vehicle registration certificate or certificate of registration can be presented, the vehicle must undergo an individual type approval procedure.

In this case, the steps from the registration procedure for self-built or not yet registered used vehicles apply.

• Registration certificate Part I and Part II or vehicle title and vehicle registration document with deregistration notice
• Certificates of the still valid main inspection (original)
• Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB, formerly insurance double card)
• SEPA direct debit mandate
• General documents on the vehicle owner (see Downloads)

The registration authority uses special adhesive seals with special security features for the vehicle documents. This increases the total fees by € 0.30 per adhesive seal used.
