
Settlement permit - skilled workers
In contrast to the residence permit, the settlement permit for skilled workers (Section 18c (1) AufenthG) is a permanent residence permit. It entitles the holder to pursue gainful employment.
Details
The requirements are met if:

- a skilled worker has been in possession of a residence permit in accordance with §§ 18a, 18b or 18d AufenthG for 4 years,
- they can provide evidence of at least 48 months of contributions to statutory pension insurance or comparable insurance benefits,
o r
- a skilled worker has successfully completed vocational training or a course of study in Germany,
- they have been in possession of a residence permit in accordance with §§ 18a, 18b or 18d AufenthG for 2 years,
- they can provide evidence of at least 24 months of contributions to the statutory pension insurance scheme or comparable insurance benefits,
as well as
- a skilled worker has sufficient knowledge of the German language ("German Test for Immigrants" completed at level B1),
- they hold a job which they are permitted to occupy in accordance with the requirements of Sections 18a, 18b or 18d AufenthG,
- their livelihood is secure (no receipt of public benefits),
- there is no interest in deporting them (e.g. due to criminal offenses),
- the skilled worker is permitted to work, provided they are an employee,
- they have a permit to pursue their gainful employment on a permanent basis, if this is required (e.g. professional license),
- they have a basic knowledge of the legal and social order and living conditions in Germany ("Living in Germany" test) and
- they have sufficient living space for themselves and their family members.

- completed application form
- passport
- Proof of residence (e.g. rental agreement, in the case of a subletting agreement also a declaration of consent from the owner)
- Proof of health insurance
- Proof of pension insurance (usually in the form of a pension insurance history)
- Suitable proof of income (e.g. payslip for the last three months, for self-employed persons the last two income tax assessments and a current BWA/GUV, employment contract)
- Integration course certificate
- Signed instruction sheet
- If applicable, declaration of consent to the storage and use of your e-mail address and telephone number
