Why are animal experiments important in ageing research?

The biological basis of ageing is being researched at the FLI. As ageing is a very complex process that affects not only our body cells and organs, but also the entire organism, many scientific questions can only be investigated using animal models.

The conduct of these animal experiments is strictly regulated by law and requires a multi-stage approval process. Researchers are always aware of their responsibility towards animals. The 3Rs principle is consistently applied and implemented to avoid animal experiments(Replace), to minimize the number of animals in the experiments(Reduce) and to improve animal welfare(Refine).

We provide information about the 3Rs principle and what else is being done for animal welfare.
